AI FactoryFollowing the initial announcement the Luxembourg AI Factory in December 2024, the Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism, Lex Delles, and the Minister of Research and Higher Education, Minister of Digitalisation, Stéphanie Obertin, presented the next steps on 10 March 2025.

They outlined the plans for installing and operating a supercomputer optimised for artificial intelligence, MeluXina-AI, as well as the associated Luxembourg AI Factory. With this project, Luxembourg is taking a new step forward in its ambition to become a major player in artificial intelligence and digital technology in Europe.

A European AI leader

This ambitious project will place Luxembourg among the European leaders in AI, joining an initial group of six other AI Factories located in centres of excellence in Europe, in Barcelona, Bologna, Kajaani, Linköping, Stuttgart and Athens.

MeluXina-AI will be operated by LuxProvide, the company already in charge of the MeluXina supercomputer and the country’s future quantum computer, MeluXina-Q. In parallel, Luxinnovation will coordinate the activities of the AI Factory, which will rely on this infrastructure to stimulate the national AI ecosystem.

State-of-the-art AI ecosystem

The Luxembourg National Data Service, the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology complete the consortium supporting the project. This initiative will enable:

  • Sovereign high-intensity computing, meeting Luxembourg’s strategic needs in terms of digital technology and AI.
  • The development of a state-of-the-art AI ecosystem, making it possible to attract innovative companies, talent and investment.
  • Strengthened collaboration at European level through active participation in joint initiatives.

The supercomputer will be integrated into LuxConnect’s data centres in Bissen and Bettembourg, with 50% of the computing capacity reserved for the EuroHPC network and European countries and 50% dedicated to national needs.

The Luxembourg State’s commitment to this highly strategic project as a whole amounts to €60 million.
