Luxembourg ranks as 2nd most sustainable country in the world

Using 32 performance indicators across 11 issue categories, the 2020 Environmental Performance Index (EPI) ranks 180 countries on environmental health and ecosystem vitality. According to the study, “these indicators provide a gauge at a national scale of how close countries are to established environmental policy targets”.

Luxembourg 2^nd best environmental performance

Luxembourg is in second place in the overall ranking, after Denmark and before Switzerland, the UK and France. All top 10 countries are located in Europe, Japan being the highest ranked non-European country in 12^th place.

Luxembourg ranks 2^nd in the world in the field of ecosystem vitality. Among the subcategories in this field, it ranks 1^st in the world for pollution emissions, 6^th for water resources and 7^th for climate change.

In the field of environmental health, the country is in 7^th place. It ranks 7^th for heavy metals, 9^th for sanitation and drinking water and 11^th for air quality.
