The Ministry of Energy and Spatial Planning, the Ministry of the Economy, the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Finance jointly presented the official launch of the circular economy portal in Luxembourg on 22 June.

This governmental platform is used to provide information related to the “Kreeslafwirtschaft Lëtzebuerg Strategy“, presented last February, and to communicate on its practical implementation towards public and private stakeholders.

“Since the very first study done on this topic in 2013, the circular economy has progressed well in Luxembourg,” explains Christian Tock, Deputy Director General Industry, New Technologies and Research at Ministry of the Economy. “Many players are interested in it and more and more projects are emerging. In order to federate all these organisations and projects, we needed to put in place a common vision, a methodology and a governance. This was achieved through the Strategy for a Circular Economy published earlier this year. We also needed a showcasing and communication tool, as well as a one-stop shop for the circular economy. This is what we now have with the portal.”

“A barometer”

The website provides a single point of contact for this transversal theme. Currently in English, it will eventually also be available in Luxembourgish, French and German.

In parallel with the launch of the portal, the four ministries involved are also implementing a campaign to raise awareness of the circular economy via social networks.

“The portal will make it possible for all companies involved in the circular economy to submit their projects and get support from the public authorities,” says Charles-Albert Florentin, manager of the Luxembourg CleanTech Cluster at Luxinnovation. “The platform will also in a way play the role of a barometer, by identifying and tracking the evolution of all circular economy projects initiated in the country.”
