Three Luxembourg co-productions were selected for “Un certain regard”, the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival that rewards works with an original message and special aesthetics and that are bold creations:

  • Chambre 212 (On a Magical Night), a feature film directed by Christophe Honoré and co-produced Bidibul Productions
  • The Swallows of Kabul, an animated feature film by Zabou Breitman and Eléa Gobbé-Mévellec, a Melusine Productions co-production
  • Fire Will Come, a feature film directed by Oliver Laxe and co-produced by Tarantula Luxembourg

Chiara Mastroianni won best performance for her role in “Chambre 212”, while “Fire Will Come” received a jury prize.

A fourth film, the Luxembourg feature film The Orphanage directed by Shahrbanoo Sadat and co-produced by Samsa Film, competed in the selection “Quinzaine des réalisateurs”.

Film production is a major business in Luxembourg. Since the 1990s, co-productions with foreign companies have regularly attracted leading film stars to the country for shootings of international blockbusters. Luxembourg got its first Oscar in 2014 when Zeilt Productions won an Animated Short Academy Award for its film “Mr Hublot”.
