The best of the next generation clean technology and business innovations from the Nordics and Baltics have been selected by the international jury of Nordic Cleantech Open which in included Georges Schaaf, Head of Sector Development Cleantech, Luxinnovation.

An international jury of more than 40 influential representatives from venture capital firms and multinational companies selected the most promising 25 start-ups out of the 104 Nordic and Baltic applicants of the Nordic Cleantech Open competition. The Top25 companies were assessed to have the highest innovation, market potential and ability to execute, which are important starting points for investors and industrial companies for collaboration.

For this seventh round of the Nordic Cleantech Open, our very own Georges Schaaf, Head of Sector Development Cleantech, Luxinnovation, joined a prominent set of jury members, all with extensive cleantech experience and knowledge. The jury members came from companies, such as Inven Capital, Siemens Gamesa, Finindus, Dow Chemicals, BASF, Bosch Ventures, Encevo, Luxinnovation, SABIC Ventures, E.ON, and Conduit Ventures.

Looking to the Nordics for expertise and business development

As Luxembourg is seeking to attract CleanTech companies and innovation, the Nordics offer the best opportunity when looking to internationalise. Georges strongly believes the Luxembourg CleanTech sector can benefit from connecting with, and learning from, the Nordic countries and he is investing a lot of time and energy there as part of his strategy to develop the industry here.  His being an active jury at Nordic Cleantech Open signals that he puts his actions where his intentions are.

Of the contestants in the Nordic Cleantech Open and the eventual winners, Georges says, “It was really an excellent panel and not that easy to determine the 25 best companies among the more than one hundred applicants. It is amazing how fast the CleanTech sector develops. What is most important for these young companies is to get visibility. At the end it will be the customer who decides which solutions and projects will be successful.”
