Jean-Philippe Arié, Luxinnovation, speaks at the European Digital Healthtech ConferenceThe EHDS – the first common thematic EU data space – is set to revolutionise the use of health data across the EU. “The EHDS will facilitate the cross-border exchange of health data, making it significantly easier for patients to receive healthcare in another EU country,” explains Jean-Philippe Arié, Luxembourg HealthTech Cluster Manager at Luxinnovation. “It will also pave the way for a genuine EU market for electronic health record systems (e-HR) and provide a basis for reusing health data in research, innovation, and public health decision making.”

To further explore the emerging opportunities for digital health innovation, the 2025 edition of the European Digital Healthtech Conference will focus entirely on the impact of the EHDS. On 25–26 March in Luxembourg, companies ranging from software providers to medical device manufacturers, as well as researchers, healthcare professionals, and decision makers, will convene to share insights on how the EHDS is set to influence:

  • health data collection, standardisation and organisation
  • opportunities for innovation and the extended use of digital health solutions to deliver better, more personalised healthcare
  • the secondary use of health data for research and innovation
  • the need to build trustworthy digital health solutions and ensure their adoption by patients and healthcare professionals

“We are particularly interested in looking into how the EHDS enables the development of digital medical devices and artificial intelligence-driven applications enabling personalised medicine,” adds Dr Arié. “While the standardisation and interoperability of health data present enormous potential for research and innovation, they also pose significant challenges for healthcare professionals and digital health solution providers, who must align with stringent data standards and security requirements and ensure that patients are willing to trust and use the digital tools. These issues will be a key focus at the conference.”

Open, European, human-sized

This is the third edition of the European Digital Healthtech Conference, organised by Luxinnovation in collaboration with Medical Valley and EIT Health. The event attracted several hundred participants from across Europe and beyond in 2024. “Our goal is to host a human-sized event that allows easy access to speakers, experts, and peers for meaningful conversations and networking. It is truly gratifying to see hospital executives, medtech startups, regulators, healthcare investors, and policymakers come together,” Dr Arié notes.

He also underscores the operational nature of the event, where speakers provide practical, hands-on insights drawn from their everyday work. “Luxembourg is widely regarded as a neutral setting where sensitive issues can be discussed openly. In previous editions, participants have candidly shared both their successes and their setbacks. We hope that this year’s event will not only continue to foster transparent dialogue but also ignite new partnerships that will shape the future of digital health in Europe.”
