Born in 2016, Luxembourg Gaming Xperience is the first – and so far unique – convention in Luxembourg which aims to bring together the worlds of gaming, geek culture, e-sport and other new technologies. “A unifying and bonding culture, with a large community that likes to get together, meet and exchange on these passions”, explains Lubambu Eli, Head of Marketing & Communication at 11F Luxembourg, the company that supports this convention.

After the great success of the 2019 edition, with more than 14,000 people attending the two-day event at Luxexpo The Box, the 2020 vintage was obviously eagerly awaited. It should have taken place last September, but the “Covid context” decided otherwise, pushing the organisers to cancel it outright. “We had already started thinking about digitalisation of the event in the spring,” explains Mr Eli, “In any case, a large proportion of those who follow us are already very familiar with the digital world”.

Streaming live

This is how the LGX Online event was born, a 100% digital format that will be held from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 December 2020. It will bring together, over three days, numerous pop culture themes.

In addition to gaming, there will be Japanese culture, cosplay, quizzes, etc. LGX Online will be based mainly on the Twitch platform (owned by Amazon), which is already well known to gamers. “It allows a great deal of interactivity”, explains Mr Eli. The event will also be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube.

A unifying event

Unlike the “physical” show, where visitors can go wherever they want, LGX Online will offer Internet users the opportunity to follow as varied a route as possible, with the possibility of easily switching from one theme to another.

The detailed programme will be revealed over the course of the days via social networks – where the entire “community” has more than 35,000 followers – and on the event’s website. “The perception of the event will inevitably be different, but we are rather confident that this new format will be a success. It will in any case give us a good basis for considering the next steps in the years to come”, concludes Mr Eli.

Marc Lis, the manager of the Luxembourg Creative Industries Cluster, is delighted with the development and the direction taken by LGX. “In addition to its growing importance, I also note that LGX has become a good example of a unifying event that brings together the creative people of the ‘Interactive media & Gaming’ sector, several of whom are part of the cluster. It’s a fine example of collaboration between different players within our cluster”.
