Built between the 11th and 14th centuries, Vianden castle today ranks among the most significant historical monuments in Europe. Numerous tourists and residents head around 50 km north of Luxembourg City to visit the restored building and enjoy its spectacular location on a hill overlooking the Our valley.

A feast for the eyes

CNN includes Vianden in its list of 21 beautiful castles described as “a feast for the eyes and a time trip back to the bygone age during which they were created”. The list also names Neuschwanstein (Germany), Alcázar of Segovia (Spain), Amber Fortress (India), Ksar of Aït-Ben-Haddou (Morocco), Kalmar Castle (Sweden) and Himeji Castle (Japan), among others.

Castle lovers have a lot to discover in Luxembourg, as the country is home to over 50 castles and picturesque villages. Visitors can enjoy other restored castles such as Beaufort, Bourscheid or Clervaux. They can also take part in medieval festivals, exhibitions and concerts or follow the national hiking trail of the “Valley of the seven castles”.
